Company goals template

Three goals for the whole company: growth, finance and operations. Each one is a number with a deadline and one owner, so anyone can tell where you’re going.

Check each goal

  • It’s a number.
  • On the deadline, you’ll know whether you hit it.
  • It’s for your timeframe, not someday.
  • A new hire could read it and know where the company is going.

How to use it

  1. Pick your timeframe. We recommend about a year, lined up with your calendar year, but choose what fits your business.
  2. Write one goal for each area: growth, finance and operations. Each one has to be a number.
  3. Write down where you are today, so everyone can see the gap.
  4. Give each goal one owner. That leader decides which ideas for their area get approved each month.
  5. Every month, work on at least one priority toward each goal.

Why it works

If you don’t know where you’re going, any road will get you there. Three objective goals give every idea in the company something to be measured against, and anyone can read them and know where you’re headed.

Every business fits under three areas. Growth is your sales and marketing, finance is your money, and operations is your engine. One goal each keeps you from chasing growth while the rest of the business falls behind.

In Unbreakable OS

This is built in.

Set up to five big goals in Unbreakable OS, each with a number, a deadline and an owner. Every pitch has to tie to one, and your execution rate shows how each area is doing month by month.

Common questions

How many company goals should we have?
Start with three: one for growth, one for finance and one for operations. Unbreakable OS lets you set up to five if your business really needs more.
How long should a big goal last?
We recommend about a year, lined up with your calendar year, but you can choose the timeframe that fits your business. The goals hold steady. What changes every month is the work you do to hit them.
What makes a goal objective?
It’s a number with a deadline. “Grow sales” isn’t objective. “$5 million in revenue by December 31” is, because on that date you either hit it or you didn’t.
Who owns a big goal?
One leader per goal. That leader decides which ideas for their area get approved each month, and each priority under the goal has its own owner.
